Picking the right one.
A few things worth getting right before you buy. None of it is brand-specific โ these are the fundamentals of a power strip that lasts.
Outlets & spacing
Count the plugs you actually run at once, then add headroom. Widely spaced or angled outlets matter as much as the count โ bulky wall-warts can block neighbors on tightly packed strips.
Surge rating & VPR
Joules tell you absorption capacity, but clamping voltage (VPR) and response time decide what reaches your gear. A lower VPR clamps a spike sooner โ read both, not just the headline joule number.
Cord length & gauge
Gauge is the wire thickness. 14AWG copper carries more current with less heat and voltage drop than thinner 16AWG โ it matters for power tools and long runs. Pick a length that reaches without coiling.
Mounting
Keyhole slots or a metal housing let a strip live on a wall, bench, or under a desk instead of underfoot. A mountable unit keeps cords off the floor and away from spills and foot traffic.
Certification
Look for a real NRTL mark โ ETL/SGS ยท UL1363 & UL1449 โ not a self-declared claim. NRTL listing means an OSHA-recognized lab tested the unit against the U.S. safety standard for power strips and surge protectors.
Power that stays where you put it
A power strip on the floor collects sawdust, trips feet, and strains its own cord. A mountable power strip turns loose power into installed infrastructure โ on the wall above a bench, under a desk, on a stud, or inside a cabinet. Every strip in this collection is built to be fastened down, with a metal housing rigid enough to take the screws.
Four ways these strips mount
- 4-way bracket systems. Our 8-outlet and 12-outlet bracket models install four ways โ wall, under-desk, workbench or 19-inch rack, and 16-inch stud spacing โ with removable adjustable brackets and screws in the box.
- Keyhole slots. Hang-and-lock mounting on the back of most heavy-duty models. Two screws in the wall, slide the strip on. Easy to take down for cleaning or rewiring.
- Screw, 3M adhesive, or silicone pad. The 6-outlet individual-switch line ships with a removable bracket that installs three ways โ including no-drill 3M adhesive for metal cabinets and finished surfaces. A socket wrench comes in the box.
- No-drill desk clamp. The desk clamp model grips edges up to 2 inches thick โ rental-friendly power at standing desks and workbenches, zero holes.
Matching the mount to the surface
Plywood or stud wall: screws through keyholes or brackets, horizontal or vertical. Under a desk: the 4-way bracket models or the desk clamp. Metal cabinets and toolboxes: 3M adhesive mounting on the individual-switch line. Racks: the bracket models fit 19-inch rails, and the 20A rack-mount strip adds true 20A capacity. Why the housing matters once it is on the wall
A mounted strip becomes part of the room. The aluminum-alloy housings here do not flex around the fasteners, do not crack when a tool bumps them, and shed heat better than plastic. Wide-spaced outlets keep bulky adapters from blocking neighbors โ up to 4.2-inch spacing on the widest model โ and each product page names its certification and lab. Can I mount a power strip without drilling holes? +
Yes. The 6-outlet individual-switch models include a 3M adhesive mounting option, and the desk clamp model grips any edge up to 2 inches thick with no tools or holes.
Can these be mounted under a desk? +
Yes. The 4-way bracket models and the keyhole-slot models both mount under desks and workbenches, and the strips work horizontally or vertically.
Is the mounting hardware included? +
Yes. Bracket models ship with brackets and screws in the box, and the individual-switch line includes screws, 3M tape, a silicone pad, and a socket wrench.
Can I mount a power strip vertically? +
Yes. The housings and outlets work in any orientation, and the bracket systems support horizontal and vertical installs.
Why choose a metal strip for mounting? +
A 1.5mm aluminum housing does not flex around the screws or crack on impact, so the strip stays put on a busy bench. Metal also sheds heat better than plastic.
Do mountable strips fit 16-inch stud spacing? +
The 4-way bracket models and the 20A rack-mount strip are built for 16-inch on-center stud mounting, so they screw straight into framing without anchors.
